Job Description:

MEM Recruitment Bedford is currently recruiting for an Accounts Assistant to join our team based in Caxton Road, Bedford, MK41 0XZ.

The successful candidate will be required to provide efficient and effective accounts payable and accounts receivable administration.

Accounts Assistant Main Duties:

  • Match original delivery notes and purchase orders to the purchase invoice.  Issue invoice to the department budget holders for approval
  • On receipt of approved invoices, process on Rootstock
  • Agree weekly payment run with Finance Accountant and process payments in the bank
  • Weekly payroll
  • To ensure statutory information is provided to HM Customs and Inland Revenue in a timely manner
  • Process of all Sales recharge invoices
  • On receipt of all purchase ledger supplier statements, reconcile invoices and balances with Rootstock and request any missing invoices.  File statements in alphabetical order
  • Liaise with suppliers in respect of all purchase ledger enquiries
  • Update daily bank reconciliations and posting of bank transactions
  • Reconcile Purchase invoices raised in Rootstock
  • Post all banking transactions into Rootstock
  • Produce weekly supplier payment runs and create BACS files
  • Holiday cover for Sales Ledger
  • To liaise with and provide relevant analysis for external auditors
  • You may be required to train others as part of your role

Skills & Competencies:

  • Experienced in Purchase Ledger and Payroll
  • High attention to detail
  • Commercial Awareness
  • Good communication skills
  • Good problem solving and analytical skills
  • Competent on Microsoft Office products, and Accounting Software
  • Effective communication with finance and non-finance staff
  • Good understanding of the organisation’s objectives and operations
  • Flexible in supporting business needs

Success Criteria:

  • Queries from staff, suppliers and customers are resolved quickly.
  • Staff are paid on time and accurately.
  • Accounting entries are processed accurately.
  • Finance team and support functions work well together and are effective.
  • Procedures are suitable and appropriate to the business.

Shift Patterns:

  • Monday to Thursday – 8.00 am until 4.30 pm
  • Fridays – 8 am until 2 pm

Rate of pay:

  • £11.54 Per Hour
